GRAMMAR AND PUNCTUATION. By Huw Thomas. Scholastic. Four volumes. pound;22.99 each
Grammar - the word strikes terror into the heart of many teachers, principally because many of them received no education in this area themselves and don’t know their parse from their elbow.
These term-by-term photocopiables are nothing if not rigorous, though the author warns that this is not a scheme to be followed slavishly, rather a complementry resource. The range is comprehensive and while some of the worksheets might more easily be done as a blackboard exercise, the majority are of good quality.
Detailed notes flag up relevant language issues, suggested teaching strategies and possible follow-up activities. A subject knowledge section claims to “demystify content knowledge for teachers” - the long winter evenings will just fly by. Good value for money.
