Primary all-rounders need help of specialists

I was interested to read that David Hart argues for the use of subject specialists in the primary school (“Under-11s ‘damaged’ by all-rounder teaching tradition”, TES, October 14).

We have used this method and setting by ability across key stage 2 for more than 10 years. It has been a key element in raising attainment. My staff would not wish to return to the old arrangements.

We did promote this method through our work as a beacon school. However although there was interest, no other school implemented it. As far as I know we remain the only school in Kent working this way. I shall be interested in the Government’s response. This may be one reform that we actually agree with!
