Book: The Once Upon a Time Map Book by B.G. Hennessy and Peter Joyce, pound;4.99, Walker Books Ltd. A great stimulus for young children for all kinds of mapwork and descriptive writing about places.

CD-Rom: BBC Barnaby Bear’s Local Walkabouts, Sherston, pound;299 for a site license. Barnaby Bear is a perennial favourite with key stage 1 children.

Website: Seterra Software. Available to download free from www.activityvillage.co.ukkids_geography_software.htm. A wide variety of games to help pupils study countries, capital cities or flags of the world.

DVD: Climates of the World, Classroom Video, pound;34. Good for a recap on weather and climate across the world.
