Jane Williams, principal of the City of Wolverhampton College, has been appointed the post-16 further education standards “tsar”.
Ms Williams is intended to be a “champion” for FE and will, as director of teaching and learning, head a unit of around 30 staff, including college secondees.
Aged 49, Ms Williams has been at Wolverhampton since 1999. The college was created with the merger of Bilston Community and Wulfrun colleges. She is credited with helping to forge a successful new institution.
An English and Russian graduate, Ms Williams’s early career was as a secondary English teacher. She has more than 20 years’ experience in FE. She serves on the vocational qualifications committee of the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, and a sub-group of the National Leadership College.
