The Scottish Secondary Teachers’ Association has always held fast to the notion that standards must be maintained in education. Alas, those standards seem to be slipping, at least within the ranks of those paid to write - and proof-check - the union’s 2005-06 academic diary.
In among the usual tabular information is the traditional listing of salary levels for various professional grades, including heads, depute heads and, alas, “principle (sic) teachers”.
The previous item reminds us of the old joke that asks for the collective noun best used to describe a group of principal teachers. The answer, as older readers will recall, was “a lack”.
