TORY-RUN Surrey county council has been accused of putting politics before parents in its bid to find a private company to run a school on the site of the failing King’s Manor in Guildford.

Four companies will later this month submit bids. It would be the first privately-run state school in the country.

The council will consider a “fresh start” for the school - closing it legally and then re-opening it under a new governing body - if the tendering process fails.

But Dale Tapper, a school governor and a member of the King’s Manor Community Action Group, said these options should have been considered from the start.
