Prize pupil at ‘worst school’

The TES’s honest reporting of the difficulties of league tables in schools (November 21) is in admirable contrast with the coverage in most of the papers.

You will be interested to know that, by the time this letter is published, I will have presented the first of the newly-inaugurated Margate Young Citizenship Awards to Janice Sheppard at the Ramsgate School. This award is to mark her achievement in writing a booklet which was part of the commemoration of the 1897 Margate Surfboat Disaster.

You may find it worthy of comment that a young lady from the “worst school in England” should have managed to get a booklet published.

ROY FORD

Mayor of Margate Old Town Hall Margate, Kent
