A 277-pupil primary school in Oldham is one of the first to be identified as “likely to fail to give its pupils an acceptable standard of education” under the new inspection framework. HM Inspectors who visited Roundthorn primary school in June criticised standards in most subjects at key stage 2, assessment and recording arrangements, and management and leadership structures.
The school, however, had a very positive ethos, and recognised its cultural diversity as a strength. The “likely to fail” category is a step above “failing”, but still requires special measures. The local authority and governors have already put an action plan in place and appointed a new acting head.
