Ted Wragg reminded me of Michael, aged eight in about 1960. Problem: the bus leaves at 8.05am and the walk to the stop takes 10 minutes. What time should he leave home?

Michael: 10 minutes to 8. Why? Because the bus often leaves early The last I heard, Michael was doing pretty well in the real world.

By the way, do you think that school itself might seem like the real world to children?
