(Photograph) - Head of music Jane Leggatt admits she was uncertain about whether exam pressure would affect the performance of her GCSE students as they played for a solitary school place in the 2007 Welsh Proms.

However, the six-strong jazz band from Penglais school, Aberystwyth, who call themselves Freefall, did not get a note wrong as they impressed a celeb-led panel to clinch stage space at this year’s musical event of the Welsh calendar.

Eos Charter, from chart-topping string quartet Bond, was among the judges listening to the sultry tones of the ‘The Moob’, a composition written by band member Russell Evans.

“I am so proud of them,” said Ms Leggatt. “They really pulled it off, despite their workload.” The band will now perform a 20-minute programme before the children’s prom on July 14.
