The Northern Ireland Department of Education has rejected a proposal to publish the 11-plus test results for every primary school, writes Paul McGill.
The department is considering proposals to print the national curriculum test results for seven, 11 and 14-year-olds. But it has ruled out publishing league tables based on the separate tests used for entrance to Ulster’s numerous selective grammar schools.
Publication of 11-plus results had been backed by the Northern Ireland Economic Council which said it would show links between results and the economic and social circumstances of primary schools.
However, the education department said it had no plans ever to publish theperformance of schools in the transfer tests. A spokesman confirmed that publishing the results of assessment at key stages 1, 2 and 3 is being considered.
