The head of a teacher recruitment agency is calling for a provisional ban on teachers who are being investigated for violent or sexual offences.

Bob Wicks, chief executive of Select Education plc, has written to school standards minister David Miliband asking for tighter procedures for List 99, which bans people from working with children.

Currently, teachers are only placed on the list once an investigation is completed.

The Government is reviewing child protection procedures following the Bichard Report into the Soham murders.
