Scotland’s Children in Need single has been written and performed by pupils from East Ayrshire’s Loudoun Academy - a role normally given to professional recording artists.

The CD of “You Gave Back a Part of Me” was launched last week on Fred MacAulay’s BBC Radio Scotland show. Pupils will perform the song at Children in Need Rocks Scotland, a concert at Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on November 19.

A number of pupils came together to create and plan the lyrics, melody, merchandising, advertising, song production and event management. The CD cover was designed by senior pupil Karen Harkness.

Loudoun Academy has raised more than pound;90,000 for Children in Need since 1997, and the target this year is to get past pound;100,000. The BBC will provide updates of the school’s progress.

The song can be bought at the school, in local shops or downloaded from iTunes or cdbaby.com.

This year’s Children in Need appeal is televised on Friday, November 19.
