AUTHORITIES say the offer is far better than that for other local government staff who had to settle for 3.3 per cent with substantial reform of conditions in a one-year deal.

They also maintain that with annual inflation predicted to fall to around 2 per cent the average pay rise for teachers of 14.7 per cent represents a substantial hike in earnings.
