FACT OR FICTION: COMMON PERCEPTIONS OF THIRD WORLD POVERTY

“There’s always wars - money goes on armies instead of health” is a common misconception held about the world’s poorest countries, according to this new ACTIONAID report. Other stereotypes it challenges are: people in those countries are poor because they have too many children and don’t do enough to help themselves; and whatever you do there will always be another drought or emergency.

Until December 20 the booklet is available to TES readers for Pounds 3, including postage (usually Pounds 3.95 plus postage), from: TESFact or Fiction offer, ACTIONAID, Chataway House, Leach Road, Chard, Somerset TA20 1FA.
