I WAS fascinated by the advice from one of the young teachers in First Appointments (TES, November 8) that as a sanction “students should stand at the front of the class facing the wall with hands on heads”.
I wonder if this teacher on the graduate-trainee programme has considered making troublesome pupils stand in a corner wearing a dunce’s cap or holding a heavy book out at arm’s length? Both were very popular sanctions in bygone days, and just as cruel and unusual a punishment as the one she suggests.
