A pupil deported

On March 16, pupils and staff at Clifton comprehensive said a sad farewell to Aziz Murzayev. This Year 7 pupil arrived in November from Chechnya. Earlier in the day Aziz’s distraught mother came in to tell us her family were to be deported. Apparently Aziz had known for several days but had felt too ashamed to tell us.

Aziz, a lovely intelligent boy, was upset and confused. So too were his classmates. Pupils ask “Why is Aziz leaving?” What answer do we give? Will children understand that Labour politicians are afraid of losing votes to a xenophobic Conservative party?
