Some 400 pupils from the Charnwood borough of Leicestershire will take part in a “mini-Olympics” to celebrate 400 days to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The council has organised the “Torch to School” project in partnership with Loughborough College and Loughborough University to encourage pupils to get more involved in sport. Children from 10 schools will represent different countries at the event, which will be held at the university’s athletics track next week. There will be an opening and closing ceremony along with a torch relay to kick off the day’s activities. The torch, held by Loughborough College and dating back to the 1948 London Games, will then embark on a 12-month tour to visit each of the borough’s 65 schools.
