(Photograph) - Pupils from Bury grammar school for girls will have their own taste of World Cup glory in Germany, after taking the top UK prize in a European languages competition.

The Year 9 pupils published a website about the Brazilian football star Ronaldinho, and created an accompanying health and fitness DVD.

The girls, (pictured left to right) Lucy Whitworth, 14, Charlotte Leach, 13, Emma Wright, 14, Jemma Nurney, 14, and Helena Thomas-Wilson, 13, plus Abbie Sellers, 14, (not pictured) fly to Munich on Monday. They will take part in the Starwatch final, an event that encouraged 38,000 pupils from the UK, Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands to link language and fitness projects to the World Cup.

The event, sponsored by the European Commission, is run by the German publishing firm Zeitbild. CILT, the national centre for languages, and the Association for Physical Education were the UK partners.
