Around a million pupils attending CofE schools will take part in celebrations for the bicentenary of the Church of England’s National Society. Founded in 1811, the society initiated universal free education by offering schooling to the poor in every parish. Events will culminate in a special service at Westminster Abbey on 14 October. www.natsoc200.org.uk.
