Commuters often moan that anyone could run Britain’s railways better than its current managers. This summer, the theory will be put to the test.

Participants in engineering courses at the summer school for gifted and talented pupils will have to design their own rail network. Pupils will examine the history of light railways, and study the engineering, commercial, social and political implications of all their planning decisions. www.warwick.ac.ukgifted
