I fully endorse all that is written in “Just add water” (Friday, June 8) about the need to drink more water. The health of our pupils is at stake if this issue is not addressed nationally.
We need a schools campaign to advertise the benefits of drinking water to combat the vending machine industry, which costs pupils plenty - in more ways than one.
Most of the schols in Inverclyde have fresh, chilled water fonts in their dining areas. Pupils are no longer dehydrated and there is a filler to allow them to fill up their plastic bottles so they can have a drink during PE or when they feel thirsty.
“Go on, take a drink” is postered above each font, and the advice appears to be working.
