Pupil:teacher ratio rises

The pupil:teacher ratio rose last year from 18.1:1 to 18.3:1, according to new figures published by the Department for Education.

The number of full-time equivalent teachers rose to 392,900 in maintained schools, constituting an increase of 0.6 per cent, while the school population has risen by 1.9 per cent.
