Edexcel are not the only ones to make mistakes. Another cock-up, this time by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, has just resulted in a 90-minute key skills communications exam starting two-and-a-half hours late due to the omission of a cartoon.

Rather than wait for thousands of faxes to be sent, every exam board should have a secure section on its website, accessed by a password. Then, when a cock-up occurs, errata can be posted and downloaded quickly for distribution to waiting examinees.
