Quentin Blake was born in 1932 and has drawn ever since he can remember.

His first drawing was published in Punch magazine when he was just 16. He read English at Cambridge. After National Service he qualified as a teacher, then took life-classes at Chelsea Art School. Since then he has illustrated more than 300 books. He was made an OBE in 1988 and the first children’s laureate in 1999.
