Finbarr Moynihan, heidie of Glasgow’s Holyrood Secondary, has an accent that puzzles many - County Cork with plenty of west of Scotland thrown in.

Which is why a new first-year opined that the heidie was Swiss. Moynihan, no whit put out, was initially delighted when the lad’s classmate piped up with: “It’s a County Cork accent.”

But he came back down to earth as the lad continued: “I know, because my grandfather told me that he played football with you when he was a boy.”
