A perfect lead-in to a Parliamentary exchange last week between Sam Galbraith, the education minister, and Nicola Sturgeon, his SNP shadow at least for the present. Galbraith had observed that, far from Higher Still being rushed in, it had taken leisurely six years to get it going.

Sturgeon said it had taken 11 years to implement Standard grade and six to start on Higher Still. “So there is an argument that Higher Still was rushed,” she added. Run that one past us again.
