Car racing and spelling might not have a lot in common. But the Government hopes the two can be combined to motivate pupils.
The Silverstone Study Centre has been opened at the famous race circuit in Northamptonshire to provide a glamorous location for pupils struggling to master the three Rs. It is one of more than 100 Playing for Success centres at sporting grounds around the country, which are aimed at children lagging behind in literacy, numeracy and ICT.
The centre at Silverstone will provide after-school tuition and was formally opened last month by former Formula One champion Damon Hill.
