So the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development has called on governments to help tackle an international teacher shortage in key subjects by making the profession “more attractive to talented graduates” (“Leaders of the pack: UK headteachers are top of the table”, 16 March). May I suggest a more radical approach: make the profession more attractive to those already in it.
