The latest edition of Grapevine, the Scottish School Board Association newsletter, contains some sparkling puffs for the parties, led off by a serious looking picture of Raymond Robertson, who remains Education Minister for at least another three weeks.

The other contributions are liberally sprinkled with references to the writers’ own parties. How curious the minister’s prose contains not one reference to the Conservative party. And who could possibly have crafted a phrase such as “designed to ratchet up national standards through the aggregate effect of each school’s endeavours”?

Do we detect the fair hand of a civil servant? Tut, tut.
