* For Christian studies in KS23 there’s a link to the parable of the talents (Matthew 25.14-30, in a different version in Luke 19.12-27). It’s important not to moralise it. This is a picture of what accountability to God might mean and raises the question: what does it mean to take God seriously? More obvious Christian comments about money concern not serving God and wealth (Matthew 6.19-21, 24b). The often misquoted “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils” comes from a passage about greed in ITimothy 6.10. The Koran also condemns the hoarding of wealth (eg Sura 104).
* For KS4 and KS5 this article opens up what John Hull calls the “spiritualisation of money” for discussion - you can no longer cash your tenner for gold and much movement of money is in the electronic ether.
Money is as invisible as love - we only see promises of both. In such a situation, money becomes intrinsically linked to the beliefs of societies, which raises big issues for classroom religious and ethical debate.
