I would like to invite Geraldine Carter of the Reading Reform Foundation (Letters, TES, March 16) to drop in on a Reading Recovery lesson with a struggling six-year-old to see the intensive, focused work that goes on every day to ensure each child can use phonological knowledge to support fluent reading and writing. It seems that from what she has presumed about Reading Recovery, she might be surprised. She could also refer to www.readrec.org.uk
