A virtual reading assistant that tapes pupils as they read aloud and allows teachers to listen to them later has won the best special needs category at the Education Resources Awards.

The Rapid reading assistant software, aimed at slower learners, is marketed as an “extra pair of hands” for teachers.

Chris Jones, chief executive of Harcourt, said: “By combining the latest technology with expert knowledge of how to support struggling readers, it’s a solution that can really make a difference for many learners.”
