If ever proof were needed of a school learning on its stomach, it came during the media feeding frenzy following the announcement that St Mark’s Primary in Barrhead is Scotland’s best school, according to the inspectors.

STV’s reporter, Kelly-Anne Bishop, was interviewing P1s on what made the school great. The answers ranged from “I like the hot dinners”, through “the pancakes”, to “the food”.

Now the inspectors know how good their school is - and why.
