Record numbers in court over truancy

Record numbers of parents are being taken to court over child truancies, new figures have revealed. More than 10,600 people were prosecuted in 2009, with more than 8,000 convicted, according to the Ministry of Justice. Fourteen parents or guardians were sent to jail.
