THE latest victim of those rogue obscenity filters that are causing teachers so much trouble is Scots tabloid the Daily Record. Glasgow teacher John Milgrew told the NASUWT’s Scottish conference he was denied access because its lead story triggered the censor.

The censor was less vigilant when John’s pupils logged on to another site. “They got specific instructions - and diagrams - on how to inject themselves with heroin,” he said.

They weren’t the only ones - an Edinburgh teacher found tips on rolling joints. But the last word must go to Bruce Kerr, technology teacher from Dumfries and Galloway, who warned the conference: “If you’re into astronomy and look up Uranus, you’re in for a shock.”
