The spectre of regional pay for teachers has surfaced in England, where the School Teachers’ Review Body is to examine its introduction. It is likely to include paying a premium to teachers working in urban areas, based on an investigation of the extra salary for London teachers. The Westminster Government has sanctioned a “golden handcuff” deal worth pound;10,000 from next month to attract teachers to the most challenging secondaries - provided they stay for three years. Some 6,000 appointments will benefit 500 schools.
