More than 27,000 early education and childcare workers are to receive details about how they can register with the Scottish Social Services Council. Morag Alexander, SSSC convener, said registration and regulation would ensure the workforce is “properly trained, appropriately qualified and effectively regulated”.
Nursery and childcare staff will have to go through enhanced disclosure checks and show they hold relevant qualifications. They will have three years’ grace to come up to standard if they do not have the correct qualifications. Senior staff will be asked to register in October, others by next March.
