Headteachers have called for local councils to end the “totally unacceptable” practice of holding on to criminal record checks relating to new school staff and not handing on the information to the relevant schools.

In its submission to the Bichard Inquiry into the Soham murders and school staff vetting, the National Association of Head Teachers also calls for enhanced checks to be made on all school support staff.
