The philosophy of religion syllabus for AS and A2 and its current cascading into KS4 and even KS3 work means that much of this information can be adapted for class use. The Raphael picture provides a good introduction and also revision to key thinkers. A video clip from the TV series The Good Life can still raise issues about what the good life is. In our society, whose ethos in many ways resembles a hedonistic form of individualism with a dash of cynicism mixed in, the ancient roots of modern issues can be shown to be relevant. For KS4 and 5 this illustrates how even in a curriculum which has reduced the study of religion (and within it, philosophy) to 5 per cent of curriculum time, the issues raised and the contribution made by these two sister subjects underpin much learning across the range of “subjects”.
