Coleg Ceredigion in Cardigan, recovering from serious financial difficulties, last week announced plans to shut the 40-year-old Felinfach campus because of continuing cash losses.
Farmers claimed plans to transfer all part-time courses to the Welsh Institute of Rural Studies in Aberystwyth would cause problems for students forced to leave their farms and travel long distances.
Under a rescue scheme brokered by the Farmers Union of Wales, the institute or nearby Carmathen College could step in to run courses on the campus, securing its future.
The plan is to be discussed by all of the groups involved on February 20.
