The indignation from three grammar school heads and two selective supporters about the new admissions procedures is clear. Sir Peter Lampl thinks there is a scandal yet he does not explain why he needed to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds get into grammars in the first place.
It could be that parents play safe in their choice of school because there is no faith locally in the 11-plus. Perhaps the Sutton Trust should investigate why poor children don’t go to grammar schools.
