Research show girls gain sex awareness from soaps, but lad magazines set bad example;News;News and opinion

Girls draw vital sex lessons from teenage soaps, but lads’ magazines continue to punt unhealthy sexist views of relationships, a study of TV programmes, magazines and newspapers by Glasgow University Media Group confirms.

Television dramas aimed at teenagers like Sweet Valley High, Dawson’s Creek and Hollyoaks posed difficult questions faced in real life and were a help. Girls’ magazines also provide detailed information, as do agony aunts.
