If you’re already thinking about resources for the autumn term, it’s worth taking note of the new children’s service from Help the Aged. This is the first time the charity has produced online content specifically for schools, and it’s a useful destination for teachers looking for citizenship material for key stage 2.

The site is not a campaigning tool, and many of the sections look at issues that are as pertinent to an eight-year-old as they are to an octogenarian. There are sections on how life used to be (with information on the Second World War), older people in the media, food and fitness, looking after each other, and money matters. Each section has background information, quizzes and interactive games for students and worksheets for teachers.

It’s a compact site that’s easy for children to navigate and the bright cartoons give an up-tempo feel to a subject that is not always easy to cover without being gloomy.
