Resources Key stage 1

Resource An Island Home (Wildgoose, pound;9.18). A fantastic resource pack all about the Isle of Coll. Comes with A3 laminated photos of the island, on the reverse of which are lesson ideas, questions and background information. Also comes with an Ordnance Survey map of the Isle of Coll and a Katie Morag story. Visit www.wildgoose.ac.

Resource Ordnance Survey map symbols flashcards. A great pack of two sets of cards. One set shows the OS map symbols, the other set displays the names of the symbols. Loads of potential for educational games. Can be downloaded free from www.ordnance survey.co.uk.

Website www.multimap.co.uk. This site will provide good quality aerial photographs of your area and allow you to overlay the corresponding map. Great for simple map work and children love spotting their school.

Website http: mapzone.ordnance survey.co.ukmapzone is a lively and fun website that helps children learn about the different aspects of map work using interactive games and quizzes.

Resource Compete Local Studies (Soft Teach Educational, pound;230). Allows you to build up a map of your local area using different aspects of mapping such as grid references, symbols, compass directions and scales. You can add text and photos through hyperlink hotspots. Visit www.soft-teach.co.uk.

Resource 1:25 000 Explorer series maps (Ordnance Survey, pound;7.99). Recommended by the Ordnance Survey for use with younger children because of their easy-to-access nature.
