LONDON schools are to restart vaccinating children against tuberculosis in the new term after an 18-month suspension, ministers announced this week.
Shortages of the BCG vaccine have meant that around 1.5 million teenagers nationwide have been lef unprotected against TB, despite soaring rates of the disease. The capital has the highest rate of TB in the UK - three times the national average. There were around 6,000 cases of the lung disease in the UK last year, and around 400 deaths.
