RUNDOWN buildings at two further education colleges will be the first to be overhauled under a scheme to brighten up post-school learning.

Edinburgh’s Telford College is to receive pound;14.8 million from the Scottish Further Education Funding Council over three years to help relocate to the banks of the river Forth while Angus College will update its facilities in Arbroath with a pound;3.1 million grant over a similar period.

The windfalls come from an estates funding programme worth pound;15 million a year, part of the additional Scottish Executive cash for the sector. All 47 colleges were invited to apply.

Fiona Baikie, Telford’s principal, said the pound;45 million relocation to a waterfront site in the Granton area of north Edinburgh would now happen within four years. The college currently spans four campuses.

The development will help cement the economic regeneration of the northern fringe of the city.
