Payment by results is so popular it is reaching almost everyone, apart from the MPs who think it’s so marvellous. Now pupils in Knowsley, Merseyside, can earn pound;25 vouchers if they can prove they have made the most use of Sam Learning - the examinations support web service to which the local education authority subscribes. The move is intended to motivate students in the borough, which was bottom of last year’s GCSEleague tables. In Nottingham, which is third from bottom, the tables have been turned. The service is paid a basic rate and only qualifies for a bonus if it hits its targets, which is based on improvements in exam results. Sam Learning provides support and practice for tests and exams from key stage 1 core national tests through to A-levels and is supported by the National Association of Headteachers. You can try Sam Learning free of charge on 30-day approval.
