AS A governor of a special school I would have been alarmed by Jackie Harrop’s review of Approaches to Teaching and Learning: Including Pupils with Learning Difficulties, (Special Needs, October 29) had I not already read the book.

The authors do demonstrate that good teaching is what characterises successful practice, but there is no reference to there no longer being a vital place for a special school setting, nor do the authors anywhere use the outdated and pejorativeemotive term “segregated education”.
