This is an ambitious set of tools to facilitate the planning, operation and assessment of active citizenship projects, large or small. What you get for your money is a slim book and a CD with unlimited site licence for each key stage. It isn’t cheap, so you might want to trial it first.

The books contain helpful and well thought-out schemes of work, with suggested session-by-session outlines detailing the steps needed, learning objectives and resources required. There are also curriculum links, including the DfES SEAL references.

The photocopiable worksheets (also on the CD) are businesslike, unfussy and designed to fit together as a wall display, although they aren’t very inspiring to look at. The CD materials are neat, orderly and well constructed and will help learners to discuss, develop and structure their ideas like a military operation. The teachers’ notes are particularly helpful as they allow you to record every part of a project, from the groups involved, the goals and activities, planning and learning outcomes, assessment information, group reports and reflections.

It’s a canny tool and offers a brilliant framework for developing ideas.

Get More Involved! has the facility for GCSE learners to create a first draft of their coursework in the formats required by the various exam boards.

This is a sound planning and thinking tool which will help learners and teachers to manage a project and chart the evolution of a task from beginning to end with sophistication and insight
